Hair Of The Day: Tight Bouncy Curls

Whee! I got the Remington Sleek & Curl flat iron today, I love it!

It cost $35 but is just $30 right now at Target. The dvd it comes with shows how to do some really cute styles. After I've played with it for a few more days I'll post a review (along with a bunch of tutorials) if anyone is interested in that.

Review: Hot Tools Curling Iron

Quality: 5 out of 5
Price: $25-$35 depending on the size
Where To Buy: Sally's Beauty Supply, Beautychoice.com, & other online stores

My mother bought the 1 1/2 inch curling iron 3-4 years ago. Its had pretty regular use and has not had to be replaced. I've been using it for about a week and its made getting cute curls so easy! To curl my hair I start abour 4 inches below the base of my hair, roll up to my scalp, hold for 3 seconds, pull the iron down 2 inches, roll back up to my scalp, hold for 2 seconds, pull down 2 inches, and continue that until I've the the ends of my hair around the iron. Once I have all of my hair wrapped around the iron I hold that for 4 seconds and release my hair. When I've finished my whole head I run my finges through my hair and spray it with TreSemme's Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist hair spray. I have thick, slightly wavy hair and set the heat to 8/Extra Hot.

I also use TreSemme's Smooth & Silky shampoo and conditioner, and I just got TreSemme's Heat Tamer spray to use before using heat products.

The iron does get steam coming out of it when I curl my hair, and I have burnt it a little when I had the heat on the highest setting.

Mega 1-1/4" Professional Spring Curling Iron. For large, loose curls. $30

Soft-Grip textured handle
BONUS! 2 replacement springs included
Patented Pulse Technology for Gets Hot... Stays Hot performance

Heavy-duty long-life heating element
Foldaway safety stand

Extra-long cool tip
8-ft. super heavy-duty round cord for longer life, reduced kinking and tangling

PROS:
-heats really quickly
-gets very hot
-makes great curls

CONS:
-I've heard that the spring for the clamp wears out and has to be replaced. I can't remember whether or not my mother has had to replace hers but I know others have.

I do plan on doing a tutorial with this iron later in the week.

Review: Coastal Scents Gel Liners

Quality: 5 out of 5
Packaging: 4 out of 5
Size: 3g/0.11oz
Price: $6.95
Where To Buy: Coastal Scents
Would I buy again: Yes!

Coastal Scents has come out with these fantastic new gel eyeliners. They come in 10 great colors, with the basic Black, Brown, and Navy. What I really like is that they have other colors that you don't normally see in gel liners; white, grape, bright blue, turquoise, silver, and gold. They come in a frosted glass jar with a glossy black top.

The liner is soft and creamy. All you need is a small amount on the tip of your brush to get a solid, pigmented line. A little bit really goes a long way. After applying the liner it dries quickly and doesn't smudge for hours. At the end of the day I only had a tiny bit of smudging at the outer corner of my lower lashes, but I don't think anyone but myself would notice.

I've used this on my lower water liner with no irritation. It lasted about 6 hours before it really started to fade.

PROS:
- creamy, easy to apply
- pigmented enough that you only need to use a little bit
- dries quickly and doesn't smudge
- lasts for hours on the water line
- wide color selection

CONS:
- the jar doesn't have any lable with the color name

Ingredients:
Isododecane, Polyethylene, Trimethylsilocysilicate, Cyclomethicone, Ozokerite, Ploymethylsilsesquioxane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Quaternium-18 Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Propylparaben, BHT. May contain: Mica and Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide, Ultramarine Blue, D&C Red No.7 Ca Lake, FD&C Blue No.1 Al Lake, D&C Black No.2.

eyeshadow: Fyrinnae's Kitten In Heels
liner: Sky Line

Coastal Scents Haul; glitter and gel liners

I felt like getting some fun glitter in Christmas colors to use during the next 2 months, and it took me a while to realize that Coastal Scents has 1 teaspoon samples for under $1.50. So, I got red, green, & gold plus a red and gold eye shadow. The Crystal Teal was a free sample.

I also had to try their gel liners. They are half the price of MAC and HIP (just $7!) and they have more then the basic black/brown/navy/purple colors. I got Sky Line and Turquoise and I love them! They dry fast, a little bit goes a long way, and they are really bright. To apply them I got the black handled taklon liner brush, which is very thin and applies liner really well.
