J.Lynne Cosmetics

Jess, the creator of J. Lynne Cosmetics sent me a lovely batch of samples to try out and review.

J.Lynne mineral makeup products are cruelty-free and 100% natural. The J.Lynne Cosmetics collection includes mineral foundation & powders, mineral blushes, mineral eye shadows, all-natural lip products and more!

I was sent some samples of the Satin Pearls e/s, the Gloss FX Natural Lip Glaze, and the primer and finishing powder, which I haven't try yet because my skin is a little crazy right now.

This is the entire Japanese Garden Collection, which I LOVE!

Samples are $1.25: 1/16 tsp. in a 5 gram jar
Full Size are $8.00: 10 grams net vol (2-3 grams net wt) sifter jar

These are some of the nicest pigments I've ever tried. They are perfect if you don't like lots of shimmer but still want something that is just a little reflective and glowy. They go on like butter, very smooth and soft. The colors are soft but easily layered for a stronger look. Its very easy to blend and I haven't gotten any fall out. As soon as I used up these samples I'll probably buy a few of the full size colors.

Ingredients: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891). May Contain Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

This is the lipgloss samples, all of the neutrals, peaches, and reds

Samples are $2.00: 1/4 tsp (approx.) in a 5 gram jar
Full Size are $12.00: .35 oz net vol. tube with wand applicator

These glosses are pretty sheer, only the darkest colors show up on my lips. They have lasted half the day without disappearing and are pretty moisturizing. The biggest con for me is the strong orange-sugary smell that lasts forever. I wouldn't mind so much if the faded but it seems to last just as long as the gloss does. Over all I do like these glosses, but I won't use they very often because of the smell.

Ingredients: Lanolin, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Beeswax, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil. May Contain Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

Let me start by saying, this flat iron ROCKS!

Last week was having a discount and I was planning to buy the BaByliss nano flat iron for $80. I didn't really want to spend all that money on one item, especially at this time of the year when I'm buying christmas presents for 10 people and birthday presents for 4 people, so I thought I'd try a cheap one from Target before I spent tons on a high end iron. If it didn't work out I'd just take it back. I looked on the Target website, read their reviews, and picked out a iron that looked promising (and convienently pretty!). Then I went to the store and picked up the Remington Sleek & Curl flat iron.

It was the best thing I ever did.

The first thing I did was watch the instructional DVD it comes with. It has video tutorials on how to achieve 5-6 different curly looks that are super cute and pretty easy to do. I didn't think I'd really be able to duplicate any of the looks but to my surprise on the first try my hair curled and looked totally cute.

I set the temperature to 360 degrees and it takes me about 25 minutes to curl all of my hair. The curls stay in ALL DAY! The very bottom layer of hair straightens out because everything on top smooshes it but everything else is super curly to the end of the day. Straightening only takes about 5 minutes and you only need to go over each section once for it to be pin straight.

-heats up very quickly, less then a minute
-changeable heat settings
-there is a key pad lock so you don't change the temperature while curling, just hold the (-) key down for 2 seconds and the lock symbol comes up on the screen
-curls and straightens hair with just one pass
-makes hair shinier (not tons but enough to be noticed)
-doesn't pull on the ends of your hair, glides down with no problem
-the dvd shows you how to do some really cute hair styles
-the iron itself is very cute and seems to be very sturdy, its small and doesn't take up much space
-4 year warranty, if it stops working Remington will replace it

-around the plates gets very hot, but you can still touch the ends

If you are looking for a flat iron GET THIS ONE its really great.

Hair Of The Day: Tight Bouncy Curls

Whee! I got the Remington Sleek & Curl flat iron today, I love it!

It cost $35 but is just $30 right now at Target. The dvd it comes with shows how to do some really cute styles. After I've played with it for a few more days I'll post a review (along with a bunch of tutorials) if anyone is interested in that.

Review: Hot Tools Curling Iron

Quality: 5 out of 5
Price: $25-$35 depending on the size
Where To Buy: Sally's Beauty Supply,, & other online stores

My mother bought the 1 1/2 inch curling iron 3-4 years ago. Its had pretty regular use and has not had to be replaced. I've been using it for about a week and its made getting cute curls so easy! To curl my hair I start abour 4 inches below the base of my hair, roll up to my scalp, hold for 3 seconds, pull the iron down 2 inches, roll back up to my scalp, hold for 2 seconds, pull down 2 inches, and continue that until I've the the ends of my hair around the iron. Once I have all of my hair wrapped around the iron I hold that for 4 seconds and release my hair. When I've finished my whole head I run my finges through my hair and spray it with TreSemme's Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist hair spray. I have thick, slightly wavy hair and set the heat to 8/Extra Hot.

I also use TreSemme's Smooth & Silky shampoo and conditioner, and I just got TreSemme's Heat Tamer spray to use before using heat products.

The iron does get steam coming out of it when I curl my hair, and I have burnt it a little when I had the heat on the highest setting.

Mega 1-1/4" Professional Spring Curling Iron. For large, loose curls. $30
Product Features:
Soft-Grip textured handle
BONUS! 2 replacement springs included
Patented Pulse Technology for Gets Hot... Stays Hot performance
85 watts
10 variable heat settings with built-in rheostat control
Powerful spring clamp
Extra-high heat
24K gold-plated barrel
Fast heat up
Heavy-duty long-life heating element
Foldaway safety stand
Pilot light
Extra-long cool tip
8-ft. super heavy-duty round cord for longer life, reduced kinking and tangling
On / Off switch
Solid-state circuitry

-heats really quickly
-gets very hot
-makes great curls

-I've heard that the spring for the clamp wears out and has to be replaced. I can't remember whether or not my mother has had to replace hers but I know others have.

I do plan on doing a tutorial with this iron later in the week.

Review: Coastal Scents Gel Liners

Quality: 5 out of 5
Packaging: 4 out of 5
Size: 3g/0.11oz
Price: $6.95
Where To Buy: Coastal Scents
Would I buy again: Yes!

Coastal Scents has come out with these fantastic new gel eyeliners. They come in 10 great colors, with the basic Black, Brown, and Navy. What I really like is that they have other colors that you don't normally see in gel liners; white, grape, bright blue, turquoise, silver, and gold. They come in a frosted glass jar with a glossy black top.

The liner is soft and creamy. All you need is a small amount on the tip of your brush to get a solid, pigmented line. A little bit really goes a long way. After applying the liner it dries quickly and doesn't smudge for hours. At the end of the day I only had a tiny bit of smudging at the outer corner of my lower lashes, but I don't think anyone but myself would notice.

I've used this on my lower water liner with no irritation. It lasted about 6 hours before it really started to fade.

- creamy, easy to apply
- pigmented enough that you only need to use a little bit
- dries quickly and doesn't smudge
- lasts for hours on the water line
- wide color selection

- the jar doesn't have any lable with the color name

Isododecane, Polyethylene, Trimethylsilocysilicate, Cyclomethicone, Ozokerite, Ploymethylsilsesquioxane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Quaternium-18 Hectorite, Propylene Carbonate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Propylparaben, BHT. May contain: Mica and Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide, Ultramarine Blue, D&C Red No.7 Ca Lake, FD&C Blue No.1 Al Lake, D&C Black No.2.

eyeshadow: Fyrinnae's Kitten In Heels
liner: Sky Line

Coastal Scents Haul; glitter and gel liners

I felt like getting some fun glitter in Christmas colors to use during the next 2 months, and it took me a while to realize that Coastal Scents has 1 teaspoon samples for under $1.50. So, I got red, green, & gold plus a red and gold eye shadow. The Crystal Teal was a free sample.

I also had to try their gel liners. They are half the price of MAC and HIP (just $7!) and they have more then the basic black/brown/navy/purple colors. I got Sky Line and Turquoise and I love them! They dry fast, a little bit goes a long way, and they are really bright. To apply them I got the black handled taklon liner brush, which is very thin and applies liner really well.

Review: Avon Magi X Face Perfector

A magical new air-light gel-powder colorless formula that makes all skin tones look flawless... invisible coverage; instant perfection.

Targets pores: visibly minimizes pores with patent-pending Optix Light-Diffusing Technology.

Banishes Shine: holds back shine for up to 10 hours

Smoothes Skin: reduces the look of fine feels softer than ever.
Apply evenly before sun exposure or as needed.

Quality: 3 out of 5
Packaging 5 out ot 5
Size: 1 fl ounce
Price: $10
Where to buy:

-it has SPF 20
-it fills in pores, makes them appear slightly smaller
-makes foundation stay on longer
-doesn't made me break out

-the smell might bug some people
-it doesn't do enough to control oil for me, but I know its worked better in that area for others
-when first applying foundation it slips around a bit, this just means I have to blend a little more, no big deal

Smell: It does have a slight fruit gone bad smell, but its quite faint and I don't even notice it.

Texture: Its got a strange gel/powder feel. I don't know how it manages to be both at the same time but its not bad.

Oil Control: I don't think it does a whole lot for me in that area. There may be some difference, but not enough for me to be thrilled or anything.

Pores: Without foundation it doesn't look as if it makes any difference at all on the size of my pores, but when I put foundation on they look less deep and a little smaller. Thats a big plus for me because my pores are huge.

NYX Round Lipstick Swatches

I finally did the swatches of NYX lipsticks I got. I didn't do the round lip glosses yet, but those will come soon.

Notes: Paris looks like a darkish pink but goes on much lighter, Narcissus is seriously brighter then bubble gum pink, I tried to edit the color in photoshop but they didn't even have it. Everything else is pretty much spot on except Margerita is a little bit lighter.

CherryCulture NYX Lip Haul!

I got my CherryCulture haul yesterday, I am in love with all the colors. Best $12 I ever spent!

7 NYX round lipsticks, 2 round lip glosses.
Tomorrow if I am feeling energized I will do swatches and on-lip pics.

Wild Orchid and Doll Pink
they do smell like lemon air freshner, but I don't mind it and the texture is lovely. I will definitely get more colors.
